Four policemen, including the Station House Officer and Anti-Terror Operation (ATO) officer of the Mehrauli police station, were sent to police lines on Sunday after one of the groups alleged police inaction and high handedness in tackling the Saturday clash that took place between two groups at DDA park near Islam colony in Mehrauli.
“The two groups from two different communities were playing cricket in the park when a quarrel broke out at 6:30 pm between them over some petty issue and soon it degenerated into a brawl. At 6.30 pm we received a PCR call and rushed to the spot to resolve the matter. An injured youth with head injuries was taken to a hospital for first aid,” said police.
However, Vijay Pal Singh, father of the injured youth, reached the Mehrauli Police Station, along with other people, and demanded action against Naseer and several others, alleging them of attacking his son.
“On the complaint of Vijay, we have filed an FIR against the people he named in his compliant. A probe has been ordered,” said a senior police official.
But things didn’t end there as another group also gave a written complaint against Vijay’s son alleging that he hit a youth, who received injuries on ear. “We are going through both the compliants. Necessary action will be taken,” added the senior police official.
Jasar Khan whose son Qasim was injured in the scuffle accused police of not acting fairly in the case. Despite police assuring both the groups of looking into the matter, they have failed to convince some residents as on Sunday evening more than 400 people gathered outside the Mehrauli Police Station to stage protest.
