Meeting held to put Greater Noida to IGIA Metro link on fast-track

To speed up the plans of connecting a 52-km route between Greater Noida and the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport via a high-speed metro link, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) on Thursday discussed the plan with the Delhi Government and Central Government officials.

The proposal was discussed with the officials of the DMRC, DMIC (Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor) and Transport department of Delhi and Central Government in Delhi.

Chief Executive Officer, the Greater Noida Authority, Deepak Aggrawal, said we have presented a proposal for high speed metro link between Greater Noida to Airport.

“The officials are ready to approve the plan but they have denied spending on this project. They have sought the Detail Project Report (DPR) and we have asked the consultant to finalise it,” the CEO said.

“As the budget is very high, we are considering three plans to provide high-speed Metro connectivity. The plans include, to run parallel track to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and join the proposed Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad route but it is too costly project. However, the plans are also proposed to connect Greater Noida Metro with high-speed Metro connectivity at two Metro stations either Mayur Vihar phase-I Delhi or Rajiv Chowk Metro station and then it would be connected with Airport lines which is already on high speed,” the CEO said.

Once in place, residents of Noida and Greater Noida will be able to reach IGI Airport in less than 50-60 minutes even during peak traffic. This Metro link is expected to run at 160 km per hour and will cover a distance of 66 km with only five or six stations on its route. The proposed stations are likely to be located at Bodaki, Pari Chowk, Faridabad, Gurgaon and IGI Airport.

The Metro would then be connected to Badarpur Metro, Delhi and Gurgaon. There is also a proposal to connect the domestic airport to the route, officials said.
