Meena tightens grip on ACB

Tightening his grip on the functioning of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), its chief Joint Commissioner of Police MK Meena on Monday issued an order to all the rank and file of ACB that no administrative work will be done without his and lt-Governor’s consent. He will initiate penal proceedings if the same is breached.
In the order, source said, Meena has told the officials that ‘strict actions will be taken’ if any officer was found doing administrative work without his and lt-Governor Najeeb Jung’s consent. The order does not specify the kind of administrative work. Sources, however, said this will include the registration of case also.
This new development came after an order was reportedly issued by Additional Commissioner of Police (ACB) SS Yadav last week over the power of administrative matters by the Vigilance Department of the Delhi Government.Tussle between the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government and lt-Governor Najeeb Jung began after the Meena’s appointment as the ACB chief. Earlier, the ACB was headed by Yadav, who is allegedly hand-picked by Kejriwal by sidelining the lt-Governor. The Delhi Government had objected to Meena’s appointment as ACB chief.
The row later deepened when a complaint of corruption was lodged by a retired police inspector against Meena with the Delhi Government’s Vigilance Department. The same was routed to the MHA for permission to conduct an enquiry. The MHA nodded in agreement and an enquiry was conducted. However, nothing was found and the complaint was closed.Despite the appointment of Meena as chief of ACB, SS Yadav is still holding the post.
