MCG to install construction waste treatment plant soon at Basai

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has decided to set up Gurugram’s first construction waste management plant at Basai in Gurugram. The size of the plant would be 3.5-acres of land and will process 500 tonnes of waste a day. The land has been allocated by the Corporation.

Earlier, the Corporation had finalised four sites; Pataudi, Sohna, Badshapur and Gurugram city for dumping construction and demolition waste. However, the same has been kept on hold for some time as the MCG could not come with an effective plan for waste treatment.

“The private company,  assigned to carry out treatment of construction and demolition waste, will recycle it and manufacture tiles” said a senior MCG official. The firm has already applied for no objection certificate (NOC) from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB).

“The proposal has been mooted in view of the lack of facilities to process construction waste. In the absence of proper disposal, it has become a cause of concern and the MCG has therefore decided to install such a plant,” an MCG official said.

“The MCG is working to set up a new construction waste plant in the city. This plant would take the load of the city’s concrete and it will reduce the volume of garbage.” Senior Town and Country Planner of MCG, Sudhir Chauhan, said.

“It will take at least a month for the proposal to get a green signal from the Government. A construction work would start once we get the confirmation,” said an MCG senior official on the condition of anonymity.

Recently a survey report released by the Union Urban Development Ministry, Gurugram was ranked 112 out of 434 cities. The survey was part of the Centre’s flagship Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan campaign. “We want to improve the ranking of Gurugram and several measures for waste management are being taken to keep the city clean”, the official added.
