The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will be holding its second board meeting on Monday. The meeting is being organised about three months after the first meeting was held. About 35 points will be discussed in the meeting today. Most of these are related to the proposals that were passed in the first board meeting, the work on which was not initiated by MCD because of the enforcement of model code of conduct.

Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ on Sunday said, “Our priority is hi-tech toilets at four major entry points of Dehradun, the establishment of biogas plants for the disposal of dairy waste and to make sanitation committee in every ward.”

According to MCD officials about 35 points will be taken up for discussion in the meeting including 10 from councillors. These include the matter of door to door collection in all new wards, setting the target for this year revenue generation through domestic and commercial taxes, inclusion of all governmental, non-governmental, missionary and private colleges in the category of property tax payers, to use the vacant lands under MCD for starting a scheme for unemployed youth, discussion on the enforcement of 2016 construction and demolition rule and the proposal of health department, discussion on the proposal of Asian Development Bank for the establishment of solid waste treatment plant, for the operation of car parking on PPP mode in MCD and construction of a hotel on the first floor of the shopping complex near MCD premises.

It is pertinent to mention that at first meeting of the current board on February 28, a total of 87 proposals were passed. However, work on majority of the proposals including the tendering of hoarding-unipole in new wards, petrol pumps on municipal lands and tenders for the construction of ladies toilets are yet to start.
