Schools under Municipal Corporation of Delhi could soon be boasting of co-branding with the big names in education as they have approached the civic body with a plan for a school adoption scheme, a top official has said.
“Co-branding with big educational names will boost the image that these schools carry in people’s minds. Some big institutions have contacted us with proposals to adopt an MCD school,” SDMC Education Committee Chairman Satish Upadhyay on Tuesday said.
“Big names like Modern School and Delhi Public School have contacted us and very soon we could have an MCD-Modern School or an MCD-DPS and then you will see them drawing not just poor but general students too,” the BJP councillor said.
Addressing the South Delhi Municipal Corporation House, Upadhyay said that the sporting future of the children at these schools was also likely to get a fillip with former India footballer Baichung Bhutia having approached them for a sport school.
Earlier, the Opposition ticked off the BJP councillors for allotting only `7.5 lakh towards sports in SDMC schools. “The `7.5 lakh budget amounts to roughly `1,631 per school. And, even that money is being spent on carrom and ludo sets,” an Opposition member said.
Upadhyay countered that by saying “apart from the `7 lakh alloted, there are other means like the Boys’ Fund and petty cash fund of `50,000 to `60,000”. The standing committee, meanwhile, offered a sum of `40 lakh for SDMC to boost sporting activities in schools.
