MCD doctors' unpaid salaries a bitter pill for Govt to swallow

Published on:

Doctors of North and East MCD hospitals on Friday held a peaceful mass rally towards lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s house in the wake of non-payment and delayed salaries to doctors. The rally, which was attended by all HoDs, regular doctors, nurses and other staff, was held after the meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal failed.

As many as 500 to 600 doctors of both the MCD hospitals have been facing non-payment of salaries. On Thursday, MCD released the salary for the month of March. The April month salary is still pending. Earlier, all the HoDs and regular doctors had been doing three-hour pen down agitation every day, also threatening the MCD officials that if they won’t get paid on time, the doctors will sit for full-fledged agitation.

“It’s high time that MCD takes some action. We have spoken to the North MCD Commissioner but nothing is being done in the matter. Earlier, CM had assured that the issue will be solved within seven days but nothing was done by him either,” said Dr RR Gautam, president of Municipal Corporation Doctors Association, adding that lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has said that he will speak to Delhi Government regarding the matter.

RR Gautam however, claimed that due to the tussle between the lG and the Delhi Government, the doctors are suffering. These doctors have not got the promotions, allowances and pensions for the past few years. When The Pioneer spoke to North MCD mayor Ravinder Gupta, he said, “We are not holding the salaries of anybody. It is due to the financial crisis in MCD that payments are delayed for our employees”.
