North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal on Wednesday instructed Commissioner Madhup Vyas to examine the feasibility of adopting the model of Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation for maintaining parks by leasing out a corner of a park for kiosk, measuring approximate 12' x 12', for daily use items such as grocery, vegetables, fruits, milk and bread.
Agarwal said the corporation is going through financial crunch and number of garderner is less than the number required to maintain parks.
"We are in process to explore such models to work within the available resources," she said.
Citing examples of Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation, Agarwal said that the model is very successful and the civic body is getting revenue also. She said the revenue earned from leasing out the space would be exclusively used for improvement in parks only if a policy is chalked out.
