The streets of Badarpur echoed with the powerful slogan ‘Save Yamuna, Save Delhi’ on Sunday as a massive rally was organized to raise awareness about the deteriorating state of the Yamuna River. The event, held under the leadership of Yamuna monk Ravi Shankar Tiwari, featured the Bhikshatana Mahayagya, a significant spiritual ritual. The procession began from Badarpur NTPC Gate-3, marking the start of a large-scale public movement to protect and restore the Yamuna River.
The rally, organized by Surendra Singh Bidhuri, founder of the Swabhiman Desh Ka Sangathan, drew an enthusiastic crowd of supporters who gathered to show their commitment to saving the Yamuna. Participants pledged their support with body, mind, and financial contributions to the cause.
During the procession, participants, including women and children, welcomed the Yamuna Bhikshus (monks) with flowers and garlands at various locations, including the Molarband Market. Women performed aarti and applied tilak to honor the procession while the NCC cadets marched in their uniforms.
The central message of the event was to raise awareness about the environmental importance of the Yamuna River for the people of Delhi. Bidhuri emphasized that Yamuna is the lifeline of Delhi, and its purification is crucial for the survival of the city itself.
He urged Delhi residents to come together and make sacrifices to save the river.
Tiwari referred to Yamuna as being on a ventilator, symbolizing the river's dire condition. He assured the crowd that the campaign would focus on natural healing methods to restore the river. “We have set out to treat Yamuna in a natural way, and our method is naturopathy,” he said.
