Several students from reserved categories have reportedly been denied admissions to some colleges of Delhi University for not meeting the additional eligibility criteria, which has actually been relaxed from this year by the university for such students.
“I went to Hindu College to take admissions in Hindi Honours. I meet the second cut-off of 71 per cent, but the Principal denied me admission saying that I need to have 70 marks in Hindi subject alone as it is the eligibility criteria for this course. I have only 63 and managed scoring an overall percentage of 71. It’s disappointing,” said a student of SC category.
SK Sagar, Member of the Special Enabling Committee for reserved categories said that around eight to 10 colleges had taken out their second cut-off list with guideline for students to meet the additional eligibility criteria for all categories even though the admission information booklet of the university clearly mentions of not carrying any such criteria for admissions.
“These colleges had put the list on their websites mentioning the requirement of additional eligibility criterias for all students. I personally called the Principals of Shama Prasad Mukherjee College, Aurobindo College and lakshmibai College requesting them to drop this guideline. They have assured that the matter will be resolved and it has happened due to unawareness. Most of these colleges have been identified to be girls dominant, in fact I tried Maetri College as well, but couldn’t get through today,” Sagar said.
JM Khurrana, Dean Students Welfare also said that the colleges have been reminded again to not have any additional eligibility criteria for students of reserved categories like the SC/ST and PWD.
