Many first-timers claim they opted for NOTA

Unhappy about the false promises made by various political parties, the first-time votes appeared to have opted for ‘None Of The Above’ (NOTA). As according to State Election Commission a total of 1.1 lakh voters were included in the voting list but apathy displayed by the youngsters to vote is a cause of concern.

For the first time in MCD elections, none of the above (NOTA) option was made available following the Supreme Court order. Rahul Gupta, a final year student of Delhi University said that the condition of the city is as same as it was before few years.

“The BJP ruled Corporation has done nothing to save people from deadly diseases such as Dengue and Chikungunya. Every year thousands of people suffer from and many of them lose their lives. Who is responsible of all these deathsIJ Where were corporation officials and leaders were when residents of East Delhi were forced to live in pathetic unhygienic condition,” he retorted.

“We were promised a lot before 2012 civic polls as well but nothing was done on the ground. I have opted for NOTA to register our anguish to the politicians. When Delhi was sitting on piles of garbage, the corporation people and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were busy in passing the buck on one another. Why should I vote and to whomIJ So I decided to press the NOTA button,” said Amit Singh who originally hails from Bihar and now is a voter from the Dhirpur area of North Delhi.

Riya Vohra, who is studying political science in Delhi University said that she prefers to stay at home as she has lost her belief in Indian political system that is based on false promises and befooling the voters in the name of voters.

“I have seen many students who were affected with dengue and chikungunya  every year. Overall sanitation and rampant corruption in corporations and shifting responsibility on others is something that annoys us and we decided  not to vote,” she said.
