Commuters on the Airport Express line, which connects Central Delhi to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, faced hassles for the second day in a row on Monday.
The inundation at the Terminal 3 Metro station that had taken place on Sunday had rendered the baggage scanners non-functional. Due to this, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel had to switch to manual mode of checking baggage of each person, delaying the passengers.
Commuters complained that as the entire premises of the T 3 Metro station was flooded, the escalators had stopped working. "Though the water was pumped out, the systems were not working. The bags of the passengers were checked manually, thus wasting more time and delaying the commuters. It might take another couple of days for the baggage scanners to start functioning again. Apart from this, the escalators were not working as water had seeped inside them," said a source.
On Sunday, the IGI Airport Metro station had to be shut down due to waterlogging around 2 pm, which could be reopened only late in the evening. Delhi Airport Metro Express Private limited, the concessionaire of the 22.7 km-corridor, that connects IGI Airport to Connaught Place and Dwarka, had said that the station was flooded as the water from T 3 was flowing to the Metro station. Services on the corridor were unaffected and were running as per schedule added the source.
