Diwali shopping turned into a nightmare for a man in his thirties when a group of masked men fled away with his three-year-old pug, along with other valuables, from his car parked close to a police check post at Aggrawal Fun City Mall in Shahdara on Saturday around 6:30 pm.
After the incident, police have filed an FIR at the Anand Vihar police station under section 379 of the IPC. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch. And the hunt is on to arrest the miscreants. Rakesh Kumar — working in a private company in Dubai — is in Delhi to celebrate the festival of lights.
A resident of Dwarka, he told The Pioneer, “I took my three-year-old pug named Cola with me. As dogs are not allowed inside the mall, I asked the two security guards about where to park my car. They told me to park my car near the police check post due to rush. After parking the car, I went inside the mall. After an hour, when I returned, I found that the window next to the driver's side was rolled down. They took away my Cola. Also, they stole Rs 2,000 cash, an Iphone 6, three bags and important documents kept in the car."
There were two security guards at the spot and two policemen at the police post and when I requested them to check CCTV footages, they told me that CCTV cameras were defunct for the past two days, he said.
“I was shocked by the way the cops reacted over the issue. One of them was in an inebriated state. When I told him that the robbers took away my pug, he said, ‘These things happen Kumar.” Rakesh said the incident has left him stumped. He used to live in the IP Extension area before shifting to Dwarka Sector 13.
