A 30-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a 16-year-old girl, whose chopped body was spotted in Outer Delhi's Mianwali Nagar area a fortnight ago.
Rajender Singh Sagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police 1 (Outer) said, "Manjeet Karketa has been arrested for the murder of a 16-year-old girl." The accused along with his associates killed the minor girl and then chopped her body into pieces after she asked them to pay the money which she had earned while working as a maid. The accused confessed that they used to lure girls from villages in Jharkhand and get them employed as domestic helps. While the accused used to keep their salaries with themselves to control them, the deceased, Sonu Kumari had started putting pressure on them to give her salary.
The officer said, "On May 4, the local police found chopped body of a young girl in Jawalpuri, Rao Vihar area of Mianwali Nagar. Since the identity of the girl could not be established, local intelligence was used. More than 200 houses near the spot where the girl's body was found were scanned. This, in turn, led cops to the fact that since the day of the alleged murder, a man, living in the nearby Nangloi area has been missing."
" Further, police found that the man hailed from Gumla in Jharkhand. Despite conducting a raid, police could not nab him. On May 17, based on a tip off that the man will come near Bhooton wali gali in Nangloi, a team under SHO Mianwali Nagar laid a trap and nabbed the man. He was identified as ManjeetKarketa," said Sagar
During sustained interrogation, Karketa broke down and confessed that he committed the murder.
He along with his associate Sahu and Gauri used to bring young girls to Delhi, on the pretext of offering jobs with good salary.
However, the accused and his associates used to get these girls placed as domestic helps and did not pay them their salaries.
The deceased, identified as Soni Kumari was one of the girls, who was brought from Malgo village in Jharkhand.
"The accused revealed that Soni has been working in Delhi for the past one year and in the recent past, she has been asking for her rightful salary. Afraid that she would create a hue and cry, Manjeet, accompanied by Sahu and Gauri planned to kill her.
On the night of May 3, they called her to Rao Vihar where they stabbed her and then chopped her." Police said that they are making efforts to nab the other accused.
