A 45-year-old man tried to immolate himself in the SSP office at Greater Noida on Tuesday, police said. The man identified as Sageer Ahmed, a resident of Bhangel village, has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with 65 per cent burns. Sageer has had criminal backgrounds and many cases, including attempt to murder, are registered against him. He took the step after becoming tired of meeting senior police officials to resolve the cases against him.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Noida Sandeep Singh said the victim has filed a complaint against some people alleging for pouring keriosin oil and setting him ablaze but it seems fake.

“We are investigating the allegation and FIR will be registered later,” the DSP said.

Police said the incident took place around 11.30 am in SSP office in Surajpur, Greater Noida. Sageer visited the campus as usual and the preliminary investigation revealed that he poured Kerosin on himself and set ablaze. People present in the court tired to save him, said police.
