Man strangulates wife, kills self in northeast Delhi

Due to ongoing marital discord, a 44-year-old man committed suicide after strangulating his wife to death in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area on Sunday night. The incident came to light when couple's children woke up on Monday morning and found their parents lying on the floor.
The children informed their relatives and then a call to police was made. During preliminary investigation it was found that Mukesh Chauhan killed his wife Roma before committing suicide by consuming poisonous substance. It was Mukesh's third marriage as his earlier two wives had died. He had one girl from his earlier wives and two children with Roma, according to police.
Police said the couple has been fighting over the house in which the family stayed. "The house was gifted by Roma's father on her wedding but Mukesh wanted to sell the house off which was opposed by Roma," said a police officer. The couple, who got married eleven years ago, often fought over the issue and a few months ago Roma had approached the Karkardooma courts for divorce, said police, adding that the couple had been asked by the court to stay together until they were granted the divorce. "On Sunday night the two again had a fight and in a fit of rage Mukesh killed his wife before committing suicide," added the officer.
