A 40-year-old man jumped off the terrace of a building to death after brutally stabbing his estranged wife at her rented flat in Outer Delhi’s Rohini Sector-16 area late on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Singh. He was working as a sales purchase agent.
DCP Rishi Pal (Rohini) said, “At the time of the murder, the daughter of the deceased man was with his parents.”
Police said that the incident took place at 12.25 am in Pocket F of Rohini Sector-16 where Hina, the injured woman was living with her four-year-old daughter.
“Five-year-ago, Hina (27) and Jaswinder had love marriage and they have a four-year-old daughter. However, for the past-five-months, Hina started living separately from her husband and came to live with her daughter at Rohini,” said a senior police officer.
Police said that a divorce case is pending at the Rohini court. According to a direction by the court, Hina got custody of her daughter yet Jaswinder was allowed to meet her on weekends. Meanwhile, the woman was living with her siblings in the same flat.
“On Saturday night, when Jaswinder came to meet her daughter, he did not find her at home. Following which a heated argument took place between Hina and Jaswinder.
The man allegedly took his wife to the terrace where he stabbed her more than a dozen times with a knife. On hearing the screams of Hina, her neighbours raised an alarm. Fearing to be caught, the man jumped off the terrace.
Neighbours informed the police after which both the man and his estranged wife were rushed to the Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital where the man was declared brought dead while the woman is undergoing treatment,” said the senior police officer.
Police said that a case has been registered at the KN Katju Marg Police Station under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
