Man shot dead, Tilu-Gogi gang rivalry suspected

In a recent case of gang war in the national Capital, a man was shot dead in Northwest Delhi’s Pitampura area on Friday afternoon. Police suspect that the shootout was an outcome of the ongoing rivalry between Tilu gang and Gogi gang. Police said that the incident took place opposite Rohini Court. The man was shot at least ten times in his head and upper body, leaving him spot dead. The shootout is suspected to be another revenge killing between Gogi and Tillu gang. This is the third shootout in a year’s time in the vicinity of the Rohini Court complex.

According to a senior Delhi Police officer, the deceased was identified as 26-year-old Monu Maan alias Nepali, a close associate of Jitender alias Gogi. Maan also belongs to Gogi’s village Alipur in outer Delhi.

The officer said that as told by the witnesses and locals, the incident took place at around 12.20 pm on Friday when two bike born assailants appeared near an Amritsari Naan Shop on the Power House Road opposite Rohini Court complex. “At the same time, Maan was standing with one of his aides, Vinay Siroha. Soon as the men on bike reached near Maan, the pillion rider opened fire on Maan. As he fell, the other man also got down from the bike and both of them rained bullets on Maan, while Siroha had managed to escape in time.”

Around 10 rounds were fired on Maan’s head and the upper part of his body, leaving him dead on the spot. “He was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. A crime and forensics team was also rushed to the spot. Heavy police deployment was ensured in the area even hours after the killing. Police have also scrutinised the CCTV footages of nearby areas to ascertain the sequence of the shootout,” the officer added.

After the incident, Siroha told police that he has identified one of the assailants as Amit alias Dabang from Tajpur village in Delhi. He has been identified as a member of Tillu gang, said the police officer.

Police said that Maan was previously involved in cases of attempt to murder, assault, extortion and Arms Act. The identified assailant, Dabang also has a previous involvement in an attempt to murder case to his credit in.

This is not the first time Rohini court has witnessed such brazen daylight act of criminals’ shootout. In November last year, a 31-year-old under-trial was shot dead inside Rohini court complex by a teenaged assailant who fired at him thrice before putting down his country-made pistol and surrendering, while just six months before this, in April 2017, two men opened fire at a member of Neeraj Bawana gang who was being produced in Rohini court. The man died while being taken to the hospital.
