A nine-year-old was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area when she had gone to buy food from an eatery near her house on Monday night. The rapist also strangled the girl. Assuming the minor to be dead, he fled the spot. Police sources said that the girl is battling for her life at a nearby hospital. “The minor girl has sustained deep cuts and injuries all over her body,” said a senior police officer.
A senior police officer said that the incident happened on Monday night at around 10 pm, when the minor girl, a student of Class III, had gone out to get a food parcel a few metres away from her house. The girl lives with her family in the Regarpura area of Karol Bagh.
As per the statement given by the victim, she was waiting for the food to get prepared. Tired of waiting, she went and sat on a bench. Here a man came and lured her on the pretext of giving chocolates.
He took the minor girl to an isolated spot where he raped and strangled her.
Hours later, the girl managed to wake up and reached her house where she narrated about the ordeal to her family.
Her family on Tuesday approached police and on the minor girl’s statement and medical examination, a case of rape has been registered.
Police said that they have not been able to identify the man. They are questioning the locals around the eatery and are also scanning the CCTV footage of the area.
