Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a 43-year-old plumber-cum-carpenter murdered his wife, cut her body into pieces and stacked the body parts in a suitcase. The accused identified as Subodh Kumar, slept in the same room with the corpse of his wife Manisha (35) for three days. later, unable to bear the stench, he sought his neighbour’s help to dispose off the body.
The shocked neighbour informed the local police about the heinous crime and a case of murder was registered.
The incident took place in the wee hours of February 11 said a police officer. Police suspect that, it was a pre-meditated murder as the accused first dropped his two children off to his native place in Jharkhand and then murdered his wife in cold blood after returning to Delhi.
Investigations have revealed that the accused suspected that Manisha, who was his second wife, was having an affair.
“With no fear or remorse on his face, Subodh showed up at the door of his neighbour asking for help. Apart from seeking help to dispose the body, Subodh also demanded Rs 5,000 from him,” said police.
locals told the police that Subodh lived on rent with his wife Manisha and two children.
Police sources said that the incident came to light on Tuesday afternoon after Subodh approached his neighbour for help.
His neighbour in his statement before the police said that Subodh blurted out that he had killed his wife in a fit of rage and wanted to dispose off the body.
The neighbour, who is now a key witness in the murder case, diverted the attention of the accused and quickly approached a beat constable in the Chander Vihar area area of Madhu Vihar. The beat constable informed his seniors who in turn reached the D-1 block and apprehended Subodh.
During interrogation, Subodh confessed that Manisha was his second wife. He was earlier married to Muniya.
locals said that they often heard Subodh and Manisha arguing and fighting with each other over the issue.
Subodh further disclosed that he used to often get into heated arguments with Manisha over his first marriage and his closeness to Muniya.
To execute his murderous plan, Subodh who has two children with Manisha, dropped them to his native village in Jharkhand.
When an argument over his first marriage escalated on Saturday night Subodh hit Manisha with an iron rod and then left the house, leaving Manisha in a pool of blood. later he cut up her body and put it in a suitcase.
When police reached his place, they were shocked to find that Subodh had kept the severed head of his wife tied to a rope on the floor of his house.
Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Madhu Vihar police station. The accused has been remanded to three days’ police custody and the police is piecing the sequence murder, an official added.
