The man in red cap slapped me 10 to 15 times. He took me to a room and locked me there," the five-year-old girl narrated her tale of horror on Sunday afternoon.

lying on her bed in her one bedroom flat in the Gandhi Nagar, the girl said, "The man, with the red cap slapped me and threatened me that if I told anyone about the thing, he will kill me. He then locked me. It was only then a teacher came and unlocked the door that I was freed. I was terrified".

“locked inside the classroom of her school for nearly half-an-hour, the girl was rescued by a teacher who heard her cries of help," said a senior police officer.

"My daughter was so scared that she did not tell me anything. She came back from the school and went to her tuition classes. Initially, she said she has been bitten by insects. It was only when I took her to the Chacha Nehru hospital that I realised that it was not an insect bite. My daughter was  brutally battered," said the victim’s mother.

The family is now worried about the safety of their another child — a nine-year-old boy who studies in a different school in the same area. Family of the girl said the Tagore Public school has been for the past one-and-a-half-month holding extra classes for students. “The girl went to the washroom. While returning, the accused — when he was walking in the corridors after handing over lunch boxes to teachers — cornered the girl and took her to an empty classroom,” said police officials.

Investigators said, “The girl was scared that when we showed her photographs of several suspects on WhatsApp, she pointed towards the photograph of the accused. She was shivering. Based on the physical attributes of the accused provided by the girl, we nabbed him from his rented accommodation."
