An accused man arrested on Thursday under sections of Arms Act at Lajpat Nagar Police Station, allegedly attempted suicide inside the police lock up by trying to strangulate himself with his shirt while covering himself with a blanket, police said Thursday.
According to Police, the man identified as Nitin was immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma Center where his condition is said to be stable.
“The accused Nitin alias Gochu, a resident of Lajpat Nagar was arrested on Thursday under section 25 Arms Act at Lajpat Nagar police station and was lodged at police lock-up,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said.
“He tried to commit suicide by strangulating himself by his shirt inside the blanket he was covering himself with. He was noticed by sentry on duty and was immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre in a Government gypsy,” Biswal said.
“Immediate medical assistance was provided and he is stable now. He is under care and observation at AIIMS Trauma Center,” Biswal said, adding that the accused has been previously involved in several cases of theft and snatching.
