After dilly-dallying in arresting a rape accused, Ghaziabad police on Monday arrested the rapist after over hundred city residents staged demonstration in front of the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police office. A minor girl belonging to a Dalit family was allegedly raped eight days ago.
It has been revealed that on June 19, 2016, a man identified as Suhail Khan allegedly raped a Dalit minor girl.
The victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police. On the complaint, police registered a criminal case under Sections 376, 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) Act against the accused.
“But the police did not attempt to arrest the culprit. The police once summoned the accused to the police station but let him off after questioning. It is alleged that the police could not muster courage to arrest him due to pressure from certain political circles,” alleged Pradeep Chauhan, a sanitary workers association leader who led the demonstration.
When asked for his comment, the SP City Salman Taj Patil said that the accused has been arrested and the case was being investigated.
