A 27-year old man was arrested for forcing a woman, with whom he had an extra-marital relationship, to consume poison on Saturday night in South-East Delhi's Greater Kailash area.

The woman survived and was discharged from Safdarjung Hospital. The accused has been identified as Ved Prakash, a resident of Greater Kailash.

“It has now been revealed that Ved Prakash was in a relationship with the woman for a year or so and had promised to marry her after divorcing his wife. Ved Prakash entered into an argument with her. She accused him of ignoring her. The argument  soon took the shape of an ugly scuffle on road. The woman angrily went to the roof of her house and Ved Praskash followed her. He then forced her to consume poison,” said a police official.

As the woman’s condition started deteriorating she called up the police, who then took her to Safdarjung Hospital. She was later discharged and is fine now.

The woman had recently shifted to Greater Kailash, where she was staying with her child. Her husband, who now works with a private firm in Punjab, had left her a while ago.

Ved Prakash and the victim worked together at a private firm in Okhla. The police registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Ved.
