Beware before you get into a relationship on matrimonial websites. With the arrest of a 34-year-old man, Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have solved a kidnapping case and rescued a 42-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son.

“The cheat identified as Yogesh alias Sameer Garg confessed that he was inspired by the movie ladies vs Ricky Bahl. Over past five years, he claimed that he has conned close to 15 women of Rs 50 lakh. “The accused used to impress his victims through his mannerisms and his social media accounts where he posted check-ins at five star hotels and airports.

With the rescue of one woman, five more women have come forward and complained against the accused. He entrapped women across all States,” said a senior investigator

Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) said, “The accused used to con women whom he met on matrimonial sites. Once the women started talking over phone, their friendship grew. The accused further made physical relations with them and claimed that he has recorded their intimate moments. On the pretext of leaking these objectionable videos, the accused used to extort large amount of money from the victims.”

Unemployed, Yogesh Garg, over the past five years has cheated close to 15 women of up to Rs 50 lakh. He had created a profile on Jeevansaathi.com, a matrimonial website where he used to get in touch with his victims. In the garb of social media, Garg used to post check-ins at five start hotels and airports across the country. He used to show off that he has done his graduation from Sri Ram College of Commerce, his post graduation from IIM-Ahmedabad, masters in business management from United Kingdom, a course in Chartered Accountant from Wales. He further went on to lie that his father is a former IAS officer. While his father earns up to Rs 1 lakh per month, Garg claimed that he was working at Goldman Sachs and was earning Rs 48 lakh per month.

Garg came under police net when on September 5 a man complained at the Vivek Vihar police station that his sister, a divorcee and her 12-year-old son are missing since September 3.

The woman’s brother informed police that he suspected Garg to be involved as his sister had met him on a matrimonial site.

The woman’s brother had called her several times but in vain. However, the woman received the call when the brother informed that their father is sick and hospitalised. She mentioned that she is going to Mumbai. Taking a cue from this call, sleuths of the Vivek Vihar police station traced the accused and the woman and her son at the New Delhi railway station.

The woman and the child were rescued. During questioning, the woman informed that the accused had lured her on the pretext of marriage and took her to Vaishno Devi and after a few days he again took her to Goa on the pretext of making her meet with his parents. She further told that accused also took money from her. Till now he has taken about Rs 3 lakh from her.

Police have recovered nine SIM cards, Fake Voter ID Card, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, one  I-Card of Goldman Sachs Company, one Card of American Express with the name Kiran Rajput, four Debit Cards and Five Boarding Pass.
