A 30-year-old man duped several gullible divorced women on the pretext of marrying them by creating fake profiles on matrimonial websites. A complaint was received from a woman alleging she was a divorcee and had created a profile on jeevansathi.com for remarriage.
A man named Varun Pal with a profile on the same website had made contact as a prospective groom. Within no time he had struck an intimate friendship with her. later on the pretext of a business slump, he asked her to loan him Rs6 lakh in instalments. A trap was laid and the accused was arrested when he was about to receive money from one of his victims in Rohini.
Pal had created multiple fake profiles on popular matrimonial websites like bharatmatrimony.com and secondshaadi.com under different names and qualifications. He never used his own photograph. He got the women interested in him by uploading photographs of charismatic men.
