In yet another case of road rage, a 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten up by a few drunk men who robbed him of his valuables near a police station in East Delhi. The incident happened on Tuesday night. Those involved in thrashing the victim managed to flee the spot and broke his mobile phone to prevent him and his younger brother from calling the Police Control Room (PCR).
According to a senior police official, the victim has been identified as Rupesh Gaur who was returning home after attending a function at Hallmark Banquet Hall in Karkardooma on October 10 around 10.30 pm when a car overtook his car near Hargobind Enclave in East Delhi.
One of the occupants of the car were drunk and allegedly abused Rupesh, who moved ahead without paying heed to him. When Rupesh reached near Anand Vihar Police station, the car hit his car repeatedly and when he stepped out to see the damage done, Rupesh was allegedly beaten with the butt of a revolver and they robbed of his gold chain and `8,600 that he was carrying. They threatened him of dire consequence before escaping.
Rupesh told the police that they were telling his younger brother, Om Shanker Gaur, to step out of the car but he didn’t give in and they fled after breaking Rupesh’s mobile phone so that he was not able to inform the police, said a senior police officer.
“After Rupesh approached the police, a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees, 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) IPC has been registered,” said the officer.
We have got the registration number of the car that hit Rupesh’s vehicle and manhunt has been launched to bring the culprits to justice, the officer added.
