In yet another horrifying incident of crime against minors in the national Capital, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her maternal uncle in East Delhi's Pandav Nagar area.
After the death of her mother a few years ago, the girl was abandoned by her father. Forced to leave the house, she was given a roof by her maternal uncle in Pandav Nagar area.
The incident highlights the shocking apathy where the minor’s father refused to accept her. Instead of letting her stay with him, he severed all contacts with the girl.
The minor, undergoing counseling with the help of local NGOs, was, however, offered help by her step-brother, son of her father.
“The accused had been repeatedly sexually assaulting the girl for a long time and had threatened to kill her if she disclosed the acts to anyone in the family,” said an investigator.
Police said that the incident came to light on Friday when the girl was once again sexually assaulted by her mama.
The incident happened while the wife and children of the accused uncle were away from home.
When the wife and children returned, the girl shared about her ordeal to one of her cousin sisters, who in turn informed her mother. the aunt then took her to the local police.
Based on the victim's statement and her medical examination which confirmed rape, a case under Sections 376, 506 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 6 of the POCSO Act has been registered at the Pandav Nagar Police Station. The accused uncle was arrested.
Meanwhile, after the accused was arrested, the victim was sent for counseling. However, after the matter of her sexual abuse came to the knowledge of her father, he refused to accept her.
“Instead, the senior police officer said that the minor girl was offered shelter by her stepbrother, who offered to keep her at his house.”
