In yet another horrific incident highlighting rising cases of sexual crimes against minor children in the national Capital, a 21-month-old baby girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 40-year-old neighbour in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area late on Sunday night.
Senior police officials of Shahdara district said that the accused, Hariram Yadav, a tailor, was arrested on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday night, when Yadav, a neighbour of the victim sought permission from her family to play with the baby girl.
Since the victim’s father, who runs a tea kiosk in the area knew Hariram Yadav, he often let Yadav play with the baby girl.
On Sunday evening, Hariram Yadav took the infant from her unsuspecting mother and went home where he sexually assaulted her.
A couple of hours later, Yadav came and quietly left the baby girl at the door of the victim’s house. When the parents came out of the house, they found their child bleeding profusely from her private parts. The family of the girl then rushed her to the Chacha Nehru Hospital. Since the baby was in a critical state, she was referred to the lNJP Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
The police said that they have registered a case under Sections of rape (376) and Sections 6 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station. Further investigation is on.
