Maliwal: Scrapping police station level committee by l-G most anti-women

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday told Union Home Minsiter Rajnath Singh that scrapping the police station-level committees is so far the most anti-women decision taken by the lt Governor Najeeb Jung. Maliwal met Singh and complaint about Jung in a 20 minutes long meeting at minister’s residence 17, Akbar Road.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured me that after Holi he will be taking concrete steps in this matter and I had pleaded him that under no circumstances these ‘thana level committees’ must be scrapped. He also agrees that these committees are important,” Maliwal said.

“Thana level committees are extremely important for fixing the accountability of Delhi Police directly to the people and specially for the women.

She further added that the committees were scrapped even as l-G appreciated them earlier. “I realised that l-G had actually praised these Thana level committees in past. I can’t understand that what had happened in one year that he had changed his mind, in light of all the rapes that happened in Delhi,” she said.
