The Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Ajay Maken on Sunday called for more attention towards the empowerment of the elderly. He said more efforts were required for building a healthier and happier environment for senior citizens across the nation.

Speaking at the 17th Annual Day function of Sadhana, a senior citizens' forum in the Capital, Maken expressed gratitude to the elderly members of the Forum and said it was the efforts of the elders that instill a strong faith in Indian culture and tradition in the children and youth of this country.

"On my recent visit to the US, I interacted with many Indians settled there. And it was a great feeling to know that their wish was to see their children and grand children return to the country. They expressed their wishes to see their future generations performing rituals around religious places of the country and also adapt to the great Indian value system. This strong faith in our culture is an outcome of the hard work put in by our elders. We cannot thank you enough for the richness and versatility you have contributed in making this country exceptionally traditional and beautiful," he said. Addressing the forum, the Minister said he felt a sense of peace and joy on interacting with the elderly people.
