Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Maken on Sunday met and expressed his condolence to the family members of Pooja (15), a resident of Mahavir Enclave in West Delhi who had committed suicide after she failed to get money from bank owing to the hurdles resulting from demonetisation.
Maken handed over Rs 50,000 to Pooja's family. Maken demanded adequate compensation to her family from the Central and Delhi Government. Maken said he felt very sad after he met Pooja's family members. He said that it was not the first incident of death due to demonetisation, that has claimed lives of scores of people across the country.
Maken said that on the one hand Modi Government gives a slogan "Beti Bachao - Beti Padao" but on the other hand a daughter like Pooja lost her life due to demonetisation. This is not only unfortunate but also exposed the hollow promises of Modi Government.
Maken sought an explanation from the Union Government about the manner in which demonetisation was enforced. Only the poor people are seen standing in queues and suffering while no rich man has been spotted standing in queues before banks, he added.
