Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken flagged off the "Save Metro Rath" in the third phase of the "Stop Politics, Save Metro" campaign from the from Tilak Nagar Metro station on Sunday.

The Save Metro Rath covered various stations for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening, including stations such as Tilak Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Tagore Garden and Madipur metro stations.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said the campaign has been receiving overwhelming support from the people as they are enthusiastically giving their suggestions and put their signatures on the flex boards kept outside the metro stations.

Accusing Arvind Kejriwal for destroying the public transport system in Delhi, Maken said the development has been ten years behind since the AAP Government came to power. He also said instead of improving public transport system, the AAP Government has reduced the number of buses by 1500, resulting in unbearable hardships for common man.

"During the fourth phase of the campaign, to be held from October 16 to 18, flex boards will be put up at the stations on which suggestions of the commuters with their signatures would be taken on how to save Metro," he said.

Maken also said that KK Sharma the then Chief Secretary, was among the members of the 4th fare fixation committee and even DMRC chief Mangu Singh was given a four-year extension by the Delhi Government. Wasn't the Delhi CM aware of the metro fare hike," he askedIJ

"Why KK Sharma, being a representative of the Delhi Government, did not object to the decision to raise the metro fares in the Fare Fixation Committee meeting," he askedIJ

The ruling AAP is vociferously opposing the proposed fare hike that has come into effect from Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri had supported the fare hike saying the Delhi Metro will turn into DTC if the token prices were not increased.
