Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday directed officials to make the process for getting new connections as simple as possible.
Kejriwal who is also a chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) also directed officials to restart more than 100 non-functional tube wells in Malviya Nagar to ensure regular and adequate water supply in the area.
In a meeting in which CEO Jal Board Nikhil Kumar and other senior officials were present, Kejriwal was informed that people were facing problems due to complex process of obtaining the new water connections. “Providing water to people is our duty. We should not have any complex rules for new water connections,” he said. Meanwhile, Malviya Nagar residents facing tough time in summers shared
their daily experiences pertaining to water scarcity in their area.
One of the residents of Malviya Nagar area told The Pioneer “We are not getting any drinking water as the water supplied by the government is not fit for drinking and forced to buy drinking water from local water suppliers.”
Zeeshan, student, said the water supply is just 2 to 3 hours a day, that too in very odd hours. “The water supply starts at around 4 am and goes till about 7 am. For someone like me who has to study till late, it's very difficult to get up daily at 4 just to fill up the water tank so that we can use the water during the day.”
