Make city green to curb pollution, says Sisodia

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday urged people to plant trees to combat pollution and make Delhi a clean and green city. At the launch of the 31st Garden Tourism Festival at the Garden of Five Senses, Sisodia said the practice of gardening and planting trees plays a pivotal role in bettering the human-nature relationship. He appealed to Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) to attend the three-day festival.

“Everybody is concerned about fighting pollution and cleaning the air. It can only be ensured by planting trees and growing gardens,” he said and planted a tree in the garden on the occasion.

There is a need for organising more garden festivals at a larger scale to set examples for developing a sustainable urbanised city, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

The theme of the festival, which is organised every year in the spring season, is “Grow Garden: Save Delhi”.

The 22-acre Garden of Five Senses has more than 325 species of plants.

Some of the festival's attractions are court of palm, court of cactii, herbal garden, tree museum, topiary garden, zen garden, aromatic garden and butterfly zone.

A number of sculptures and murals have been used to embellish the place.

The festival will remain open for public from 11 am to 8 pm on all the three days. The Delhi Tourism department will provide free shuttle service to and fro from the Saket Metro Station.
