Maid murder at South Avenue: Court summons Joint CP

Published on:

Taking serious note of Delhi Police apathy in submitting the forensic reports in the alleged murder of a maid in the official accommodation of a Member of Parliament (MP), a city court has summoned the Joint Commissioner of Police of New Delhi Range.

The court has sought explanation from the police to explain the undue delay in filing the forensic reports in a case in which former MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife Jagriti Singh were made accused for allegedly killing their maid. Additional Sessions Judge lokesh Kumar Sharma pulled up the police authority for not taking the murder case seriously and asked the Joint Commissioner of Police to appear before him on the next date of hearing on September 24.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Chanakyapuri police station filed a status report in the court but said that Forensic Sciences laboratory (FSl) reports were still awaited. Not satisfied with the explanation ferreted by the SHO, an annoyed judge summoned the Joint CP to explain the delay.  It may be recalled that Dhananjay Singh, a former MP from Jaunpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh and Jagriti Singh, a dental surgeon at a Government hospital in the city were arrested in November last year in the case relating to murder of their maid.

The police, in its chargesheet, had alleged that Jagriti used to “mercilessly beat” her three domestic helps — Rakhi Bhadra, 35, and two others — and had “compelled” them to work by holding them captive. Rakhi’s body, with injury marks on her legs, chest and arms, was recovered from Dhananjay’s South Avenue residence on the evening of November 4 last year.
