The AAP got a shot in the arm when Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, joined the party on Friday. “The party is vehemently opposed to corruption and this is what I liked. If a common man joins and also becomes a part of politics, then this is a welcome step,” Gandhi, son of Devdas Gandhi, said. The 78-year-old Gandhi, who had contested against former PM Rajiv Gandhi from Amethi, has expressed his willingness to contest on a party ticket. The party has remained mum over the issue. “I would like to contest elections, but it is upon the party to decide on this,” Gandhi said, but refused to comment on his preferred

constituency. He added he was approached by the party, but declined to reveal who he was in touch with from AAP. The other names doing the rounds for the upcoming lS elections are singer Rabbi Shergill who is likely to contest from Amritsar and former Women and Child Welfare Minister Rakhi Birla, who is expected to contest from a reserved seat. Party sources said Rajmohan Gandhi is likely to contest elections against BJP’s PM probable Narendra Modi. Adarsh Gandhi is likely to be fielded from BJP’s stronghold lucknow, while Shergill could be pitted against three-time BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu.
