Consumers will soon be able to know about the amount of adulteration in the food that they consume from the comfort of their homes as the Delhi’s Food Safety Department is going to launch low cost food sample test kits in the market. For this, the food department has followed the model of Gujarat Food and Drug Control Department. With the use of food sample testing kits, every household and food chain owners can check the food quality.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Delhi Food Commissioner Mrinalini Darswal said: “We have received many complaints of food adulteration from many food chain owners and households. They say that it becomes very difficult to trace the quality of food such as milk products, pulses, besan, black pepper available in the market. Therefore, we decided to launch food sample tests kits."
"People can check the quality of milk whether it is containing detergent or starch. Similarly, they can trace the quality of silver sheets on the sweets and synthesis in tea and other food substances," Darswal said.
For the commercial use, the food department has sought the price within Rs500 and for the households, the cost of the food sample testing kits is to be given at the subsidised rates.
These kits will contain five bottles with instructions written on them about how to use the kit and which bottle will be suitable for which type of food sample.
