lovelorn man jumps before metro; cops suspect suicide bid

A 23-year-old lovelorn man on Friday  allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a Delhi Metro train but miraculously survived as he fell between the tracks. The incident took place at the Iffco Chowk station around 12.30 pm.

The man, who has been identified as Ashish Verma, was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he is said to be out of danger.

A resident of Jharkhand, Ashish works as a labourer in Gurugram. Police suspect love to be the reason behind the attempt as the victim had written the name of a girl on his arm with a blade and the mark seems to be a day old.

Similar but older marks were also found on his chest, the police said.

“Verma was about to travel towards Delhi. We have to check whether he fell accidentally or intentionally. It will be clear once we recorded his statement," Sub-Inspector Razak Khan the investigating officer of Metro Police Station, said. "We have spoken to his maternal uncle in Jharkhand who confirmed that Ashish likes a girl and was upset about their relationship," he added.
