love/Hate: Friends turned foes turned friends?

Published on:

It’s a classic case of friends-turned-foes between the two chief ministerial candidates of Delhi — BJP’s Kiran Bedi and Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal seem to be at loggerheads. Rivalry between the two anti-corruption crusaders began as soon as Bedi was announced as BJP’s CM candidate and Kejriwal appealed to the former IPS officer to unblock him on microblogging site Twitter. Bedi, however, shot down Kejriwal’s suggestion by saying ‘that’s not going to happen’.

A step toward his challenge for calling Bedi to a public debate before Delhi goes to polls, AAP convener Kejriwal suggested her that both should follow each other on Twitter. @thekiranbedi “Kiran, I used to follow you on Twitter. Now, you have blocked me on Twitter. Kindly unblock me,” Kejriwal tweeted on Monday evening.

However, Bedi shot down the idea at once while making it pretty clear that it is not going to happen. “I blocked him 15 months back when he called himself an anarchist. He was spreading negativity. Didn’t want my four million followers to see negativity... it was a polluting account,” said the 65-year-old on Tuesday.

Bedi, who joined the BJP last week and was announced as its presumptive Chief Minister on Monday night, also made it clear that Kejriwal’s other wish — of a public debate with her on issues important for Delhi — isn’t going to materialise. At least not till the election are over and a final decision about Government formation is taken. “Arvind believes only in debates whereas I believe in delivery of services. I will debate with him on the floor of the House,” she said.
