Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta on Monday criticised the Delhi Government for its failure to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply, reducing power bills, increasing power production and ensuring CAG audit of discoms.

Gupta said that the Government has been misleading public all these years by spreading misinformation and lies. He said that in a number of localities, power is not available for hours together leading to untold hardships.

"The Government has failed to ensure mechanism for compensation in case of unscheduled power cuts. Due to failure of the Government to bring legislation in Delhi Legislative Assembly with regard to compensation, the much needed relief has been entangled in legal complications," he said.

The Government touted with much fanfare that Delhi had become the first State in the country to ensure compensation for unscheduled power cuts, he said, adding that Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) had decided to pay Rs 50 for the first two hour cut and Rs 100 for each subsequent hour of power cut but discom have not made payment of even a single rupee till date. "The main reason for this aberration is Government failure to ensure legal framework to compensation scheme," he said.

He demanded that the Government must bring in fool proof legislation in the coming session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly to ensure that the public gets the benefit of compensation scheme.

Gupta further said that due to unreasonable and exorbitant increase in fixed charged, the consumers are paying heavy price for the Government's policies.  "The charges were increased from Rs 20 to Rs 125 per kilo watt badly affecting each and every family of Delhi.  The power distribution companies continue to receive pension funds from consumers at the rate of 3.8 per cent directly benefitting discoms," he said.

Leader of Opposition said that in unauthorized colonies, the tariff has been increased from Rs 3,600 per kilo watt to Rs 10,040 per kilowatt.  He said that the Government must stop such loot by discoms.
