loP seeks l-G's intervention; Govt asked to submit report

Published on:

leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta met with lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to seek his immediate intervention in the Delhi Government's stoppage of funding to 28 colleges of Delhi University. In response, lt-Governor ordered the Delhi Government to submit a report at the earliest.

lt-Governor has assured us that he will examine the matter in depth and take appropriate action," said Gupta.

"I will not allow Delhi Government to play with the future of 50,000 students and the career of the staff of the colleges if immediate actions are not taken, I will take the matter forward to the President and people will come to streets to protest", Gupta added.

"The starvation of fund would make it impossible to run colleges. It would not be possible to pay salaries to teaching and non teaching staff and adversely affect the  day- to-day functioning of colleges," said Gupta.

He also criticised Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia for his comments that DU colleges are not finalizing the names of Governing Body members because they want to continue their irregularities and corruption.

"The Government must explain the reason behind sending undesirable names as members of the governing body who do not qualify academically for the same," he said.
