loP seeks action against pvt schools

Published on:

leader of Opposition (loP) in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta and Delhi Abhibhavak Mahasangh president have urged lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to direct the Delhi Government to attach the bank accounts of the 531 defaulting private schools and refund the excess fee to the parents.

Gupta said as the schools have failed to return the fee, the Government itself must undertake to refund fees along with 9 per cent interest to parents.

Justice Anil Dev Committee had recommended the refund of excess fees charged from parents in respect of 531 private unaided recognised schools of Delhi after examining the records and accounts.

The loP further said that Delhi High Court had directed the schools to do so in 2011. “But most of these schools failed to refund the excess fees. Kejriwal Government has not taken any action despite being in power for two years and three months,” he added.

As per report of Justice Anil Dev Singh Committee, heavy amount of fee is refundable by the schools but these schools are finding one excuse or the other not to return the fee. He further added that an arrear of Rs 350 crores is payable by 531 schools.

In place of refunding the excess fees, these schools have been buying time by urging Delhi Government to file review petition. “It is unfortunate that Kejriwal Government has failed to take strict action against the defaulting schools,” the BJP leader said.
