LoP calls for home delivery of liquor

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has suggested the Delhi Government to start home delivery of liquor by creating a special website in view of the increasing cases of coronavirus in the Capital.

In a letter written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, Bidhuri said that witnessing heavy rush and lathi charge by the police at the liquor shops, the government should start a special website on which people can book and buy liquor online.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of increased prices on petrol and diesel in the capital, he said the move is anti-farmer, middle class transporters and anti-businessmen.

Bidhuri said that till the formation of Kejriwal's government in Delhi, VAT on petrol was 20 paisa per rupee, while on diesel VAT was 12.5 paise per rupee but the Kejriwal Government has now increased the VAT rate on both petrol and diesel to 30 paise per liter at one rupee.

“This means that the Kejriwal Government has increased the VAT rate on petrol from 20 to 30 per cent (one and half times) and on diesel from 12.5 to 30 per cent (about two and a half times) in its five-six years rule. There has not been such a huge increase in VAT on petrol- and diesel in any state of the country,” he said.
