A 29-year-old contractor killed his wife on suspicion of extra-marital affair in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, police said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Shahid, has been arrested. Deputy Commissioner of Police Pushpendra Kumar told The Pioneer that the body of Zaibun Khatoon (25) was spotted by her brother Arif from her rented accommodation in Uttam Nagar on Sunday morning when he came to see her.

Arif informed police when he found the house bolted from outside. With the help of neighbours, he broke the lock and entered the house. The body, shrouded in a blanket, was lying on the floor. A neighbour told police that the couple had a falling-out on Saturday night. Shahid was reportedly seen leaving the house with his two sons on his motorcycle.

Police said Shahid, who worked as a paint contractor, was arrested from his sister’s house in West Delhi on Sunday evening. Their domestic bliss was under threat as Shahid used to suspect his wife’s moral fibre. On Saturday, after dinner, the couple argued over the same issue forcing Shahid to snuff the life out of her.

He left her wrapped in a quilt, took both his sons and went to his sister’s house. A case under section of 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him and further investigations are on.
