Ghaziabad has been reeling under power crisis, said some residents. Most of the areas have been witnessing eight to ten hours of power cut every day, residents added. The rural areas are worst hit with over twelve hours of power outages on a daily basis.
Superintendent engineer SB Yadav said, “The power supply from central pool is not being supplied to us. The city’s demand for power has suddenly shot up to 1,600 megawatt due to rise in temperature while it was constant at 1,400 megawatt last month. On last Wednesday, the power grid collapsed due to fall in the power frequency so we had to curtail the supply in the city.”
The worst affected areas include Nehru Nagar, Patel Nagar, Raj Nagar, Kavi Nagar, Govid Puram in the city and localities of Vadsundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram and Rajendra Nagar in trans-Hindon areas of the city. Giving details of the causes of shortfall in the power supply, the SE said, “The power generation at Harduaganj, Unchahaar and Anapara is low due to which, the State had to depend on central pool.”
“The shortage of power supply is likely to continue for few more days unless the generation at Harduaganj, Unchahaar and Anapara is improved, which doesn’t seem likely in the present circumstances,” added the SE.
Meanwhile, during the last three days, there have been complaints from power sub stations that the local residents misbehaved with the UPPCl employees in the areas of Vijay and lal Kuan power sub stations.
