Twenty four hours after a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped and brutally murdered 100 metres from her house at Northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area, scores of locals, including the family members of the deceased girl, staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west) office for the police inaction in nabbing the culprits.

A senior police official of the Northwest district said, “So far, we have identified one of the accused and will arrest him soon.” Angry residents protesting against no arrest being made in the case only dispersed after the Station House Officer comforted the crowd that action will be taken soon.

On Sunday evening, the minor girl reportedly went missing and was found on Monday morning near the railway tracks. The victim had allegedly gone missing while she was playing near her house with other children on Sunday evening. It was only when a group of women went to defecate near the railway tracks lawrence Road on Monday morning that they found the minor girl lying unconscious.

As per the initial investigation, the family said there were nail marks and other injury marks all over the girl’s body.

A senior police officer said, “Teams have been formed and sent across the city to find one of the accused who has been identified but is yet to be held. Once we get hold of the other accused, we will piece together the exact sequence of events and take appropriate action in the case.”
