A 25-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by a group of criminals on Sunday night in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area. The incident comes on the day the curfew was lifted and police presence had disappeared from the area.
According to police, the incident took place around 8 pm on Sunday. The victim — identified as Bunty — who resides in block 24, had lent money to a man. On Sunday night when he went to ask him for the same, he called his friends, all of whom have a criminal background in the area. The accused men then started hitting them and asked him to go back if he wished to stay alive. When he retaliated, they pinned him to the ground and stoned him to death. The locals informed police and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. “The accused men have been identified. They are all local toughies. Bunty needed his money back and had also had arguments with them on earlier occasions. A manhunt has been launched to nab them,” said a police officer.
A case of murder has been registered at Mayur Vihar police station. Further investigations are underway. The residents of the area were earlier satisfied and felt safer as long as the prohibitory orders were in place and police deployment was round-the-clock. Surprisingly, the incident has occurred on the day the orders were lifted.
