'local' Biharis lend weight to Nitish crusade

The efforts of the top leaders of Janta Dal (United) to garner support for the ‘Adhikar Rally’ organised by the party at Ramlila Maidan turned fruitful on Sunday, as thousands of people from Bihar living in different parts of the city also turned up at Ramlila Maidan to extend their support to the call of ‘special status’ for their home State.

People across Delhi and NCR reached the venue in large number and stayed till the rally officially ended. Enthusiasm among the Biharis was such that the venue failed to accommodate the participants and the crowd spilled on to the streets. Some of those who failed to enter the ground scaled the boundary wall. And those who could not even find a spot on the wall heard their leaders from outside the venue.

Participants also danced to drum beats and folk songs from the region. The demonstrators were unanimous in stressing that Bihar needed extra help for taking the next leap on the development front.

Ramji Singh, a retired Government employee and a resident of Burari in North Delhi said: “The State (Bihar) was in a state of anarchy before Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister. We were forced to migrate from the state in search of a better life. If his performance is taken into account, he deserves to become the Prime Minister of country”.
