Liquor policy helped CM’s close aide: BJP

As the war of words continued between the AAP and the BJP over the alleged liquor scam in Delhi, the saffron party on Tuesday once again attacked Delhi Chief Minister over the excise policy and alleged that a person close to the AAP was facilitated with a liquor licence under its now-scrapped excise policy.

During a Press conference on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia showed a picture of one Karamjeet Singh Lamba with Arvind Kejriwal and AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj, and claimed that Lamba was not only a partner in Universal Distributors that was awarded a liquor contract but had also contested local body polls on AAP ticket.

Bhatia asked Kejriwal to explain why his Government distributed “revdi” (freebies) of corruption to people close to him and his party?  The BJP spokesperson alleged that the Delhi Government flouted rules and did not maintain transparency in awarding the liquor contracts.  There was no immediate reaction from Lamba.

Universal Distributors, Bhatia added, was also one of the major beneficiaries of the AAP Government’s decision to allegedly withdraw `144 crore due to liquor traders. Its share was `66 crore, he said. The BJP will continue to expose Kejriwal’s corruption, Bhatia said, labelling the Chief Minister as “kattar beimaan” as Kejriwal did not reply even on the issue of waiving off of `44 crore by loss of revenue.

He alleged that all those to whom Kejriwal gave certificate of honesty proved to be dishonest. “He called his own Ministers and MLAs freedom fighters but the truth is that they are symbols of corruption and nothing else,” he said. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, National Spokesperson Sardar RP Singh and State BJP media relations in-charge Harish Khurana were present in the press conference.

Gupta said with the latest revelation the purpose of the liquor policy has become clear. “The commission to retailers was increased in the new policy so that Kejriwal could get half the commission,” Gupta alleged.

Gupta said that if one wants to do gimmicky politics, then no one will be better than Kejriwal for that. Only Kejriwal can pretend to take an auto ride on one hand and by flying in a chartered plane on the other just for a show and a political gimmick.”
